The Utterly Buttermere swim melted the hearts of swimmers on Saturday as temperatures soared and the Lake District was showcased at its best.

buttermere-swimmers300 swimmers took part in the 2nd Head to the Hills Utterly Buttermere Swim on 8th June 2013, swimmers came from near and far at the promise of ‘the best location to swim in the country with the most stunning crystal clear water’ and they were not disappointed.

Participants swam distances of 1500m, 5k or 10k in the event and enjoyed sunshine and blue sky which showed the Lake and mountains at their best. Swimmers, many for whom this was their first time visit to Buttermere, vowed to return again as they fell under its charming spell.

Swimmer Rosie Taylor commented ‘Fantastic day, great swim in a beautiful location. Thank you Head to the Hills and all the volunteers’

and David Higginson said 'I feel lucky to have had the experience of this event. Thanks for making it happen, and for introducing me to such a beautiful swim'.

@Buttermere2013 tweeted ‘As an unofficial voice of #buttermere, I thank all the swimmers @headtohills for participating and all the benefits local business gained :-) ‘

If we could summarize the event in one sentence it would be awesome swim, awesome location with awesome swimmers. I think you get the idea.

In the true spirit of a sportive, every participant was a winner, congratulations to all swimmers and special thank you to the army of marshals, volunteers and kayakers.

The Utterly Buttermere Swim run in association with the National Trust and the Open Water Swimming Club. enjoyed event sponsorship from BlueSeventy, No-Ad Suncream, Truncator and Cumbria PR and supporters Wilf's Cafe and Strel Swimming.
